John Goodman's Project
Goal: To build a competitive DSR for under $10K with as many
modern design features as is possible and practical.
The original car:
1979 Dulon MP-21 FF roller, acquired for $1650.
- Original track: 55" Front, 57"
Rear
- Wheel base: 94"
- Ride height:
2.250" Front, 2.500" Rear
- Standard coil over suspension
Proposed changes:
- Convert to push rod front and rear suspension
- Increase front track to
57"
- Reduce rear track to 54"
- Use 7.5X13
front and 10X13 rear wheels
- Yamaha R1 engine
- Use late model Ed Groene body
- Incorporate a Beasely rear center carrier drive unit
- Substantially stiffen the chassis, especially in engine
bay
- Improve roll centers front and rear
- Lower front and rear ride
height to 1.50" and 1.75", respectively
The Plan:
To modify the chassis in three steps.
First, the front suspension, then the driver compartment, and finally
the engine bay and rear suspension. After the chassis is complete, the
body will be fitted and the car tested.
