Ed Zink built an H-modified class car called a "Petite" (as Mustang was to Ford; it was the kind of Zink racecar). It used Jabro body work and was powered by an 850cc DKW engine which was specially purchased from the factory. At the time it was one of five racing engines imported into the US.

Going through the old SCCA magazines I have found there were possibly 3 different Petites raced in 1962 & 63, two different cars by William (Bill) Greer and one by T. Van Hoozier. According to the classified ad in the SCCA magazine there was a Mk1 (probably the car for 1962) and a Mk2 (the 63 championship car, #87).

It is possible that the Mk2 (#87) did not sell and was raced the 1964 season.Tom Watts and Bill Greer both drove a Petite at least once in 1964. Confusing year. Could Bill have taken over Tom Watts car? Or did Bill have the Mk2 and Tom the Mk1?

In 1964 J. Whaley made it to the regionals in a Petite finishing 9th (know idea which car Mk1 or 2 car, was numbered #86) .

In mid 1964 car #87 was sold to Malcolm Donaldson who raced it from late 1964 until 1967. The car during that period was prepared by a man named Joe Virog who worked on it and modified it for my Mr. Donaldson who won quite a few races with it but it broke one to many times and he sold it in 1967. The car went thru a number of owners until it came up for sale in 1985 when Mr. Donaldson bought it back and gave it to his son, Hamilton. Unfortunately the car was in extremely poor condition when he got it. It needs a totally new frame. The body work was a Jabro which also had taken a real beating. Hamilton hopes to restore the car soon.

Tom Watts went to Regionals in 1965 in a Petite (DNFed). I am guessing Whaley sold it to Watts because they both used the same 86 car number.

"Of this 28 car field, three were the mysterious H Modifieds (are there any two alike, Martin?) and slinking into first for the only trophy was the Zink Petite of W.C. Greer followed two places later at ninth overall by Kaye Hier's Bobsy I. (Corky Willis' Fiat Abarth never saw the finish.) A subversive survey of the little old men in this class reveals that many do not plan to graduate from last year's 750 cc's to the 850 cc department. Number one, it's a little tough on the purse strings and number two, some feel it not too equitable a step, suspecting that Glenn Baldwin's 750 cc national championship last year was a victory over some 850 boys. Illegal cars in SCCA? Oh tosh."1
